	About the Artist   Select your  Language Afrikaans Deutsch English Español Portugûes    then click   Get to know the Artist ISABEL  -  Biography In the 1860s, during the Art Nouveau era, Isabel's ancestors, the Stellmachers of Bohemia (now in the Czech Republic) created a new style of decorative porcelain . It became known as Amphora pottery and most of it was exported to the USA. Her great-great-grandfather, Alfred Stellmacher, developed a new type of porcelain which he named "Ivory Porcelain" due to it's soft, yellowish shade and matte finish. Two books  on Amphora pottery can be found at: www.thehouseofamphora.com and www.amphorapottery.net . Isabel was born in Freiburg, Germany. Her early art tuition occurred in Munich, Germany, as an apprentice for a "Bauernmalerei" firm before moving to Lesotho in 1975 where she worked for an international hotel chain as Prop Designer. In 1976 Isabel attended the Port Elizabeth College for Advanced Technical Education where she specialized in illustration, graphic design, etching pottery and sculpture. A short time after returning to the hotel chain she moved to South Africa where she travelled, exhibited and taught art before moving to Swakopmund, Namibia in 1980. Isabel held several exhibitions in Namibia before opening her own gallery "Reflections" in 1987. Philatelic Services of Namibia Post commissioned Isabel in 1997 to design a series of “Guinea Fowl“ stamps, amongst them a new N$1.20 stamp for use on postcards to foreign destinations. This series was so successful that she gained an additional order for a special message stamp series, a “booklet“, as well as a set of first ever Christmas stamps. Es wurde nach dem Namen der ersten Manufaktur als Amphora-Porzellan bekannt. Der größte Teil wurde in die USA exportiert. Ihr Ururgroßvater, Alfred Stellmacher entwickelte eine innovative Rezeptur, die er wegen ihrer weichen, gelblichen Farbe and matten Lasur "Elfenbeinporzellan" nannte. Ihre ersten Erfahrungen mit der Malerei sammelte sie während einer Bauernmalerei-Lehre in München. 1975 zog sie als "prop designer" für eine internationale Hotel-Gruppe nach Lesotho. Um ihre Technik zu erweitern studierte sie 1976 am Port Elizabeth College for Advanced Technical Education mit den Schwerpunkten Illustration, Grafik, Radierung, Töpferei und Skulptur. Nach einer weiteren kurzen Tätigkeit bei der internationalen Hotel-Gruppe zog sie nach Südafrika, wo sie das Land bereiste und kennenlernte, ausstellte und Kunstunterricht gab. 1980 zog sie um in ihre spätere Wahlheimat Swakopmund, Namibia. Hier hielt sie verschiedene Vernissagen und eröffnete 1987 ihre eigene Galerie "Reflections". 1997 wurde Isabel von Philatelic Services of Namibia Post beauftragt, eine Serie Perlhuhn-Briefmarken zu entwerfen, sowie eine Serie "Grußmarken" die als Büchlein gedruckt wurden, einschließlich einer neuen N$1,20-Marke für Postkarten ins Ausland. Diese Marken waren so erfolgreich das sie zusätzlich den Auftrag erhielt, eine in Namibia erstmalige Weihnachtsbriefmarkenserie zu entwerfen. Im November 1997 schloß Isabel ihre Galerie und richtete ihr Studio zuhause ein, wo sie ihre Malerei bis heute fortführt. Unter anderem beschäftigt sie sich viel mit Entwürfen, Malaufträgen und stellt in Swakopmund und Windhoek aus. Außer ihren Bildern entwirft sie ihre eigenen Kunstkarten, Schreibblöcke, T-shirts, Sweat-shirts und bemalt Decoupage-Schachteln, Kalabasse und Straußeneier... Fue conocido como Porcelana Amphora e gran parte fue exportado para los EEUUA. El tatarabuelo de Isabel, Alfred Stellmacher, desenvolvió una mezcla nueva de porcelana, la cual el llamó de " Porcelana de Marfil " debido a su color amarillo y su textura suave. Dos libros sobre porcelana Amphora encontranse en www.thehouseofamphora.com y www.amphorapottery.net . Isabel nació en Freiburg, Alemania. Ella obtuvo sus primeras experiencias en el arte durante una aprendizaje de "Bauernmalerei" en Munique. En 1975 se trasladó a Lesotho como "prop designer" para una cadena internacional de hoteles. Para perfeccionar su técnica, estudió ilustración, diseño grafico, aguafuerte, alfarería y escultura en el Port Elizabeth College for Advanced Technical Education en 1976. Después de una estancia breve en la misma cadena internacional de hoteles, Isabel se mudó a Sudáfrica, donde se dedicó a viajar para conocer el país, hacer exposiciones y dar aulas de arte. En1980 se traslada a Swakopmund, Namibia, sitio que elige posteriormente como domicilio preferido. Aquí ella hace varios exhibiciones hasta abrir una galería propia llamada "Reflections" en 1987. En1997 Isabel fue encargada por Philatelic Services of Namibia Post de crear algunos juegos de sellos postales, incluyendo un sello nuevo de N$ 1,20 para postales al exterior. Un juego fue de sellos con mensajes, otro el primero juego de sellos de Navidad de Namibia. Um jogo em destaque foi de selos com mensagens, outro o primeiro jogo de selos de Natal de Namíbia. Em Novembro de 1997 Isabel encerrou a galeria "Reflections" e montou o estúdio em casa, onde trabalha até o presente. Dit het bekend geword as Amphora-Porselein, afgelei van die naam van die eerste fabriek. Die grootste deel van die porselein is na die VSA uitgevoer. Haar oer-oupa-grootjie, Alfred Stellmacher het ‘n inovatiewe mengsel ontwikkel, wat hy weens die sagte, gelerige kleur en mat tekstuur "Ivoorporselein" genoem het. Haar eerste kunsopleiding ontvang sy in München as vakleerling van 'n "Bauernmalerei" (letterlik "boereskildery'" firma. In 1975 verhuis sy na Lesotho waar sy vir 'n internasionale hotel groep as "prop designer" werk. In 1976 studeer Isabel kuns aan die Port Elizabeth College for Advanced Technichal Education waar sy spesialiseer in illustrasie en grafiese ontwerp. Na 'n verdere kort tydperk by die internasionale hotel groep verhuis sy na Suid Afrika, waar sy die land deurkruis en leer ken, uitstallings hou  en kunsonderrig gee. In 1980 vertrek sy na haar huidige tuiste Swakopmund, Namibië.. Hier het Isabel verskeie uitstallings gehou voordat haar eie gallery "Reflections" in 1987 sy deure oopmaak. Bo en behalwe haar skilderye brei sy haar kuns uit na skryfblokke, almanake, T-hemde, "decoupage"-kaste,  kalbasse en voëlstruiseiers... In opdrag van "Philatelic Services of Namibia Post",  het Isabel in 1997  'n reeks tarentaal-posseëls ontwerp, insluitend 'n nuwe N$ 1.20-seël vir gebruik op poskaarte na buitelandse bestemmings. Hierdie seël was ook deel van 'n buitengewone reeks boodskap-seëls in 1997, 'n seëlboekie en die eerste namibiese reeks kersfees seëls.
